Not much has gone AS PLANNED yet this week. Part of that is thanks to the massive sinus infection I got pummelled with. Ive been on antibiotics since Friday night but Im still not really feeling my best. My ears arent in PAIN like they were Friday, but they are still clogged up enough that everything sounds like Ive got my head under water. Its also effecting my balance. Last night in the dark when I couldnt see which way was up I kept falling over. I spent all day Saturday in bed instead of shopping and cooking for the week, the antibiotics hadnt helped much yet and were making me nauseous so the things were on their own for the day. Sunday I went to work only to find out that sometime Saturday night the gym had gotten broken into, so that of course added to the excitement of the day. The things spent the day at work with me too, and then we met the family out for dinner to take Papa out for Fathers day.

Yesterday I got off work early and went home and went to bed. I could have been productive, but sleep was much more needed.

I had originally thought to get all the things dropped off at their respective day-camps early enough that I could run at Jervey before work, but it turns out Thing 1 cant get dropped off until a few minutes after 8 and that gets me into town about 8:25. Thats enough time to do 30 min of cardio but not to have enough time afterwards to clean up and get ready for work. I’ll have to do some more juggling to figure out what works. I didn’t take the time to pack food for today so I dont know if Im going to lift or not anyway today, and I still cant breathe well enough for cardio, and next week is a wash since the two smaller things have swimming lessons to juggle into the schedule.

A rest week shouldnt be this exhausting! June 17, 2011

Its the start of summer and that always comes with odd schedule changes for the kids. This year its meant random schedule juggling for me. I’ve spent this entire week shuttling kids back and forth, running errands, and signing kids up for stuff to keep them busy, then finding friends willing to help shuttle them back and forth from more stuff.

The best news of the entire week is: the DH got a JOB! A real job with a real schedule and an actual paycheck, too! As always, even a minor change can wreck havoc and this was no exception. He landed the job the day AFTER I signed the kids up for random summer activities that we expected him to be available to take them to.

We tried hiring a friend to come stay at the house to watch the boys for the summer but that lasted about 2 days. Her schedule just isnt definite enough to be able to depend on for the entire summer and the boys really needed to get out of the house and DO more. We finally decided on the daycare at a local church. Today is their first day and I know they are looking forward to it. I am too honestly. I can drop them off an hour early in the mornings and have time to start running again, and I dont have to pick them up until 6pm so I have time to run errands and get things done after work so I dont have to always cut into my workout time.

At the start of this week I was 3 pounds down from my return to working out. Im fairly certain Ive gained them all back this week. The food plan fell apart because I never had time to cook all week, and its been so hot in the gym I havent felt like eating even when I did have food prepped. Hopefully next week we will all be back to a usual schedule and I can get back to a routine. Im also hoping that once the finances straighten themselves out I can restock my supplement supply.

Went to bed last night with a raging headache. The kind that leaves me in tears and won’t let me keep food down for long. I took some migraine meds which usually knock me out, but thing #2 woke me up at 2am complaining about bugs (there were no bugs) that were biting him everywhere (he had no bites). I don’t know if it was a bad dream or not, but having to wake up when there are still meds in my system trying to put me to sleep is hard and just makes me more groggy and cranky. Thankfully the DH got up and took the things to school this morning so I could have some extra time to get my stuff together for work. So far I’m still doing good with my diet plan, only thing is I’m getting REALLY hungry in the early afternoon, after my protein shake but before lunch. I’ve had to stop and eat lunch an hour early almost every day this week.

Today for my workout I only did one round of the CFWU instead of my usual 2. I’m just so sore everywhere, and really tired.

My WOD today was power cleans: 1-1-1-1-1-1-1. So, 7 attempts, 1 rep each.

45#,50#,55#,60#,65#,70#,75#

I made every attempt! I was happy with my cleans, I felt like I could have gone heavier. I’ve never cleaned more than 70# before, so to hit 75# was cool.

I was going to go rest in the sauna after my workout but I got chased out by a roach.

Thing #2 had to go to the school nurse today. I got a phone call to tell me that he’d got his arm shut in a door in his classroom. There is a reason we call him the crashtest dummy.

Tonight is a late night for me, I won’t get home until almost midnight. I’m not looking forward to it.

burpees without sleep…not so fun June 1, 2011

I’ve kept my eating clean all week this week, and I know my calorie and carb levels are high enough to give me the energy I need. I’m eating about 200 calories every 2-3 hours right now. But today I’m still drained. I didn’t get off work last night until 11pm and it was well after midnight before I got to sleep. Getting the kids up for school was really tough this morning.

I still made sure I had enough time to eat breakfast and pack my food for the day.

After my warmup I did deadlifts, 10@95#, 10@115#, 5@125#

WOD:
25 pullups (gravitron)
5 burpees
15 pullups
15 burpees
5 pullups
25 burpees

I was supposed to time this but didn’t. The burpees still killed me, I’m horrible at burpees when I have energy, its even worse when I’m dead!! It took me forever to get through the last set.
Right now I’m sitting in the sauna and then am going to take a shower. Today is one of my early days at work so when I get home I have to get thing #3′s stuff together for his pre-k graduation on friday. I also have to get food packed and gathered for another long day tomorrow.

Strength work: Bench press – 10@65#, 10@75#, 8@75#

WOD: “amanda” – 3 rounds of:
15,12,9 pullups
15,12,9 dips (pullups and dips were both on the gravitron)
9,7,5 squat snatch (45#)

Skill work: hanging knee lifts – 3×10

Didn’t time my WOD. First time doing this lift and figured I would just go slow to work on form. Now wishing I’d timed it, I think I did fairly well and probably could have gone heavier.

This weekend I took the time to re-read my Zone books and figure out a new food plan for myself. I’ve been having a lot of trouble making a plan stick since they changed my schedule at work but I think this one might work. For one I’m eating breakfast before I leave the house now, and spacing things out better. Its actually LESS calories but MORE food!

Monday we went to the veterans park for the Memorial Day service and stopped by publix on our way home. I picked up the groceries I needed and then spent Monday afternoon pre-cooking and packing food for the week. We also took a small nap during the day so last night we stayed up late watching Zombie flicks.

I’ve been doing CrossFit again all week, just haven’t had the time yet to start posting. Ill try later to get on and post my workouts from earlier this week. But for now, here is todays:

Warm up:
CFWU 2×15 (except pull ups…only 5 Jpu)
(CrossFit Warm Up)
Circuit of: lunge, overhead squat(5#), situp, back extension,pull ups, pushups, dips

Strenth work:
Overhead squats 2 sets of 10 – 45#

WOD:
1000m run (0.63 treadmill run, 3% incline)
30 HSPU(headstand push up) (toes on smith machine bar set at shoulder height, unbroken…time to progress apparently)
100 45# SDHP(sumo deadlift high pulls) (subbed for rowing, row machine is at other gym location…didn’t want to drive over there, now wishing I had)

Only got 60 of the SDHP, gassed out, took advantage of a client trying to interrupt me and let them

Cardio is still my obvious weakness.

15 minutes of work on the speed bag and heavy bag

Finally gave up and sat down to eat something. All of that on an empty stomach was not my best decision ever.

Finally realized I wasnt getting anywhere trying to keep up with my own routine, so I decided to restart CrossFit. Hopefully I can stick to it enough to at least get in 3-4 days a week.

For today:

CFWU: 10×2

  • lunge stretch
  • overhead squat
  • sit up
  • back extension
  • pull up (5 – jumping negitives)
  • pushup
  • dip

then: 7 rounds for time of:

  • 35 DU (subbed SU)
  • snatch – I did 45# all seven attempts

My time was 5:48

After I cooled down a bit I did 15 minutes of intervals on the treadmill. 3.0% incline, 3.2/6.2 speed, 1.07 miles.

For the first time in a while I actually feel like I DID something at the end of my workout. Haha.

Now I have to head home to get my boys and bring them back to the gym. Long day at work today, too. Sigh.

 

Another week in review… May 18, 2011

I haven’t been doing a very good job of keeping up on my blog. Technically I guess it doesn’t really matter since I don’t think I have any readers right now anyway!!

Last weekend we went out to the hog waller mud bog with some friends and had a complete BLAST! We spent all weekend out in the woods camping, saturday was an adult only day for us and sunday morning we went and got the kids and had a family day. I had forgotten how much fun it was to play in the mud!

Monday and tuesday I was still so sore from riding that all I did was cardio. 20 minutes on the eliptical both days.

Today, wednesday, I did 16 minutes on the eliptical and had to get off early because my side starting cramping. I didn’t eat anything this morning because I was running late. I overslept because I was so tired from working my double yesterday. Once my side started feeling better I did shoulders.
Lat raise, arnold presses, front raise, high pulls, rev pec dec, shoulder press, and delt raise. Now I’m sitting in the sauna sweating. I just didn’t have the energy left to do more cardio.

Last weekend in the mud really got me thinking about how much I miss the redneck parts of life and how much my boys are missing out on that they could be doing with us. Thing #1 is almost 12 andhe could be out there driving, and the little ones love getting dirty and riding. Its going to take a lot of work to come up with the $ but I’m going to figure out a way to turn my 4wd into a mud truck and get us some 4 wheelers.

 

Catching up from Mother’s day weekend… May 10, 2011

Currently trying to multitask and post this while laying in the tanning bed at the gym…I know I shouldn’t be in here but the warmth feels so good and I needed to relax.

I’ve been feeling super-tired lately, so Saturday the dh let me sleep until almost 2pm! It was so nice. I had Saturday night off from the club but had to work Sunday this weekend so we went out to dinner for mothers day on Saturday. We went to Impanema’s which is a Brazillian steakhouse where its all you can eat. It is truly a carnivores paradise! Men in brazillian cowboy costumes walk around with huge cuts of 12 different types of meats and cut pieces off for you right at your table. There is also a salad bar with over 50 items on it. Everything there was amazing! We had invited some friends to join us and it was really a great time. After dinner we were all stuffed. The four of us stopped by a local club but there was NO one there so we ran by the liquor store and went to their house to hang out around a bonfire in their back yard.

We got home about midnight and went right to sleep. Sunday I got up about 8 am and headed into work. Our friends from dinner Saturday night came by the house and picked up the dh and the things while I was working. I had a nice quiet day at work with no hassles or emergencies. That’s rare at the location I was working at, something is ALWAYS breaking there. The things had a GREAT time apparently playing with our friends things. 7 of them in all running around in the dirt all day, trampolines and toys and 4 wheelers!

After work I took my papa to the cemetery to place flowers on my grandmas grave. That’s always depressing but I’m glad we did it. I swung by the house and picked up clothes for everyone for monday and our bath stuff and headed out to meet up with the rest of the family.

It was a blast!!! We took the 4 wheelers back out to the sand pits where they had been playing earlier and I got to drive around and get muddy. I also managed to flip one over on myself while trying to drive up too steep of a hill. I’m a bit sore today but ok. We stayed out until it started to get dark and I ran out of gas. One of the other 4 wheelers had to push me back to the garage. We were ALL covered in mud and sand from head to toe. The things played video games and took turns getting showers while we finished getting dinner together. They had put a huge venison backstrap in the smoker earlier in the day and it came out perfect. Everyone crashed without any complaint we were all so tired and worn out from a great day of fun.

Monday I woke everyone up early, and we headed home. The dh dropped me off at the house to switch vehicles and he took the things on to school. I grabbed the shoes that I forgot to pack on Sunday and headed to the courthouse to do my civic duty.

This was the first time I ever got called for jury duty and I think I got off fairly easily. I didn’t get selected and I was out of there by 11:30am! We had lunch at the chinese buffet and then laid down at home for a nap. I slept until 6pm!! I went back to bed at 9pm and slept all the way through the night. After taking the things to school this morning I laid back down and slept for ANOTHER hour, too! I just can’t seem to shake this sleepy feeling.

Today at the start of my break I still didn’t feel like I had enough energy but I decided to make it through my workout anyway and I’m glad I did.

I started with 30 minutes on the elliptical and then did my chest and triceps routine. Sunday at work I had taken the time to write up a new routine. Hopefully having a “plan” to follow will help me stay on track.

Pushups – 2 x 10, feet on bench

Pecdec flye – 60# 3×10
Tri pushdown – 30# 3×10
Chest press – 60# 3×10
Tri overhead extension – 30# 3×10
Incline db press – 20# 10,8,6

Finished with 15 minutes on the treadmill. I wanted to do 30 but my knee was hurting. Did intervals walking/running.

Long day at work today, tired but glad I made the effort to workout, feel better about myself for it.

 

Moving slowly…but still moving! May 5, 2011

I started off this morning kind of dragging, but things seem to be picking up a bit now.

Not only was I already running late to work this morning, when I stopped to get coffee, my truck decided not to start back up. Sometimes its nice to be a chick, because as soon as I lifted the hood I had 4 guys asking if they could help me. Thanks to the rising cas prices Ive been leaving the big truck at home and driving the old beat up Nissan that looks like a POS but gets the best gas mileage of anything else Ive got. It has this relay thing on the starter that every once in a while you have to tap while cranking to get the truck to start. So I handed a guy the hammer-handle I keep under my seat for just that purpose and pointed to the relay and said, “here, tap on that.” The truck started right up, and I still made it to work on time, coffee and all!

The first thing I found out was that the owner of my company was coming over to “relieve” my manager. None of us like the owner much, so just knowing he’s hanging out with us for the day is stressful. I don’t know yet if this is a permanent “relief” or just temporary. I actually like our current manager but sales have definitely been dropping since he took over a couple months ago.

I’m still easing back into a workout routine slowly but it definitely feels good to be back in the weight room. My crazy work schedule leaves me drained and exhausted a lot of days and its hard to pull enough energy to do what I know I ought to be doing, but at least Im doing SOMETHING! The gym just hired a power yoga instructor too and her class looks really good, Id love to be able to rearrange my schedule to be able to get in for her class but right now I dont think Im going to be able to. Bummer. She’s cute too!

Im trying really hard to increase my cardio again without putting too much stress on my knee, so today I started off with 15 minutes on the EFX elliptical before starting my leg workout.

  • Leg Extensions to warm up the knee – 14×40#, 10×50#, 10×50#
  • Full Squats – 14@95#, 12@95#, 10@95#, 10@115# (the 115 felt good, Ill probably start there next time)
  • Leg press – 4x(12×280#wide, 12×280#narrow)

Followed up with another 10 minutes on the EFX and then 4 sets of crunches on a small stability ball and some leg raises.

Tonight is one of my long nights at work, Ill be here until 10:30pm. Unfortunately since the owner is here, I cant even make the time pass more quickly by chatting on yahoo or texting or playing sudoko. (Yea, its addicting and Ill admit, Im a math geek)

I still have 45minutes before I have to go back to work right now. Im thinking about running over and taking a nap in the tanning bed.
